Another Weiner! And I Can’t Stop GIVING SHIT AWAY!

So many exciting things here at the Emporium!

First of all, can I just say HOW AWESOME were your comments for Werewolf Smackdown. Seriously? SO COOL.

You all made me SO HUNGRY with the food ideas/recipes (Thom, you’re amazing), but then you’d put the smackdown on my appetite by adding the blood. It was like Pavlovian training . . . I drooled at the food, and then “Blood!” and the drool would be cut off. Highly hi-larious.

I don’t like to interact too much with the comments for contests, because it sort of skews the numbers I’m working with, but I really, really adore all of them. And I’ve gotten lots of feedback from people (other authors, mainly) who think that the way you engage with my questions is super cool and really fun, so well done, all of you!

I’ll now announce the weiner of Mario’s Werewolf Smackdown. The Contest Can is warming up its vocal chords!

The weiner is . . . . KAYLA B!

CONGRATULATIONS! Email me your address at iheartselkies (at) gmail (daht) com and I’ll get a copy shipped to you forthwith!

And, for all of you who DIDN’T win . . . feeling disappointed? Sharpening your shank of anger? Considering drowning a few kittens? Well, there’s no need for all of that! Because . . .

THERE’S ANOTHER CONTEST! Seriously, the authors at the League have to stop publishing before I go broke. They’re killing me. πŸ˜‰

Up in the hot seat today are two of my favorite redheads, Jaye Wells and Richelle Mead.

I’m a huge fan of both of these ladies. Jaye is a fellow Orbit writer, and she invited me into the League. For that I will forever be grateful and have her back in snark. Richelle, meanwhile, could not have impressed me more when I met her at Dragon*Con. She’s so famous! So fabulous! So FAMOUS! And yet, she couldn’t be nicer or more down to earth. I mean, don’t get me wrong, if I ever get famous I will expect to be carried around on a divan by swarthy, well-oiled and muscular minions, who will take by the throats and shake anyone who approaches me without first genuflecting and praising my Infinite Beauty, Wisdom, and Snark, BUT while I’m doing all those things, I’ll think, “Ya know, that Richelle was so humble and fabulous. Maybe there’s a lesson to be learned, in all of that? Like . . . where is my Massager of My Left Pinkie Toe? It’s cramping! It’s CRAMPING!”

So it’s with great excitement that I roll out to the Emporium the newest books by Richelle Mead:

And Jaye Wells!

So exciting! And yes, I will give away these two books to a lucky winner! Just comment on the following, below, to enter to win both Jaye and Richelle’s newest books:

Carolyn Crane just posted this FABULOUS round up of UF and ParaRom Heroine’s hair colors. Jaye and Richelle both are fabulous redheads, and I, as you probably know, dye my hair ridiculous shades of red and pink and magenta and whatever the hell the salon comes up with that week.

So my question is: who’s your favorite redhead? You can name a real person, or a character from books and film. And what does red hair say to you?

To help you on your way, here’s Catherine Tate’s hilarious take on what it’s like to be a redhead:

If I loved Catherine Tate any more, I might explode with love for her. Explode. Not metaphorically, but actually combust. With love. For her.

So comment below and enter to win! I’ll pick a winner on SUNDAY from the Contest Can.

And stay tuned for tomorrow, as I’ll be officially launching the Countdown to Tracking the Tempest! April First means it’s THREE months till Jane’s second book comes out. Can you believe it? I can’t. And to celebrate the official launching of the launching of the launch, I’ll have some Tracking related treats for you.

I’m so excited I could spit.

Classy!

  1. Love Catherine Tate, that was soooo funny. My favorite redheads would be Weasleys from the Harry Potter series.

  2. I would have to say my favorite redhead would be my wife. Although when she went a bit comic book with her hair it got worse. It invoked the one-two punch from my youth of Jean Grey and Rogue. Red hair with the white streak… oh yeah.

  3. My favorite redhead would unquestionably be my Mom. She was an incredible woman. She was intelligent and fun and beautiful. She also had the cringe inducing trait of saying what was on her mind no holds barred. Red hair can say a lot of different things: sometimes it's "Warning, warning! Approach with caution." Sometimes it's "I will fiercely protect that I hold dear." Other times it's "Bug off, I'm going to play golf." Wait, that last one was me… but I am a redhead so that's ok! πŸ™‚

  4. My favorite red-head is Willow Rosenburg from Buffy. She started off mousy, but soon gained confidence in herself and became kick ass!

  5. Why dear, you are my favorite red, pink, magenta and whatever the hell the salon comes up with redhead! I am blonde. Booooo! I tried to dye my hair strawberry blonde once (I know, what a leap) and watched as the orange color followed me around in a chlorinated pool. Made very pretty swirls though.

Other than you, my favorite redhead is the character from the video game Heavenly Sword. She is smokin! And she has a SWORD! Man, woman, or demon, you have a sword and I fall in love! πŸ™‚

    Thanks for another bitchin contest!

  6. I liked Evan Rachel Wood as Sophie-Anne on True Blood season 2. She cracked me up and I hope to see more of her in Season 3!

  7. My favorite redhead, or at least the one that comes instantly to my mind, is Jamie Fraser from Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. Who doesn't love a kilt-wearing Highlander waving around a big sword?

  8. Favorite redhead? uff… hard one (That's is not what she said, btw) But I will go with The Weasley twins in Harry Potter =) They are the ones at the top of my head. Why? Because througout the books they were the ones who kept me laughing most of the time; not to mention my fave characters.

  9. The only redheads I can picture (besides yourself) is Rachel from Kim Harrison's series and Nicole Kidman. Guess I'm having a major brain fart today…. LOL

  10. I think I make a pretty good red head πŸ˜‰ Though I do prefer green hair to red for myself lol.

But my favorite? Definitely Georgina Kinkaid from Richelle Mead's series of books.

  11. Red heads….besides myself? And you, or Richelle, or Jaye, or Jennifer Rardin? (she is a fellow leaguer, after all)

    Well, after that then…

I'm rather partial to Shirley Manson, of Garbage fame.

Oh, and you can never forget Felicia Day…hello, hotness.

And, as someone mentioned previously, chicka from Heavenly Sword….animated or not, that bitch got mad skills.

    xox

  12. I have to say I'm pretty partial to Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan. Her and Jessica Rabbit. Yep, those are my favorites. πŸ˜‰

  13. I love red hair. I've been dying my hair various shades of bright auburn since high school.

So few famous redheads…. But I have to agree, Catherine Tate is awesome! Especially as the Doctor's companion in Season 4.

  14. Ginger People. Bwwwaaaahhhhhaaahhhaa. πŸ˜€

My favorite redhead is Willow Rosenburg from Buffy! Willow was awesome. πŸ™‚

I'd love to win either book.

  15. My favorite red head is definitely my dad! He had the best shade of red (before he went gray) but unfortunately I didn't get any of those pretty red-head genes!

  16. My favorite redhead would have to be Richelle Mead :}

She's one of my favorite authors and when i met her at one of her signings she was very funny & nice!

  17. My favorite red heads are Julianne Moore and Marcia Cross(Bree from Desperate Housewives). Red heads have the advantage of looking hot or cute at their own will..a real plus there! I love them both!!

As for a fictional one Wilma Flinstone is an all time favorite!!

I'd love to win either of the books! What works with you-begging or blackmailing? πŸ˜‰

  18. Ooo! I wants the shineys. Both these books sound amazing. I've heard many reviewers gush over both authors. Count me in!

  19. Jackie Brighton from Jill Myles the Succubus Diaries was the 1st one I came up with after the earlier mention of both Mead, and Wells. Red Hair means kind of unlucky in the clumsy laughable sort of way (or because of I love Lucy), fun, and energentic.

  20. I too am a red head. Natural. ahem…yeah, it's so natural, and changes slightly depending on what box I buy:) However, I have always been a redhead INSIDE.

I love Cat from Jeaniene Frost's books…a kick-ass red head.

  21. I think I'll go for Anna Latham from The Alpha and Omega series by Patricia Briggs.

And ehm…. what does red hair say to me……..? It's not another colour?

Can't say I put any characteristics to red hair.

  22. Favorite redhead? My best friend Lory! She is like a sister to me, always there when I need her.

Thank you very much for this awesome contest!^O^

  23. My favourite red head has got to be Lucy. I Love Lucy (snort). And, Nicole, I'll have you know that when I read where you wrote you were so excited you could spit, a drop of water landed on my computer screen. So, thank you! How you managed it, I'm sure I don't know.

  24. my favourite redhead would have to be myself lol. I've read the Red Headed Stepchild already and have been waiting for the sequel.

  25. I think I'll have to go with Alyson Hannigan, former star of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and current star of How I Met Your Mother. Both TV shows are fantastic, and both her characters on those shows really stand out. Most importantly though, Alyson herself is such a great person – she's wonderfully nice and funny and seems very grounded for such a big star! Love her so much, and will no doubt continue to follow her work if (well, when) HIMYM ever ends.

(Not going to lie though – was very close to naming Kate Winslet, but seeing as she's been dying her hair blonde for the better part of the last decade, I couldn't really make myself call her a redhead.)

  26. I have to admit to the life long quest to replicate the color of my favorite red head, my childhood dog, my Irish Setter, Keona. My grandmother had that shade of hair, and of all the kids and cousins, wouldn't you know it, the damn BOY of the group got grandma's copper tresses! And when we had a slumber party, they always counted one extra kid because the dog and the Boy would be counted twice from the pile of kids on the floor. If dogs don't count…my second red head fave is Ginger from Gilligan's Island. πŸ™‚

  27. I like Sabina Kane from Jaye Wells' Red-Headed Stepchild – her hair color with the black streaks, means she's a mix of vampire and mage.

There are a lot of really great authors around now with red hair, I think it must mean red heads are very creative, awesome people.

  28. My favorite redhead is definitely Cat from Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series. She embodies the fiery spirit so often attributed to red-heads.

  29. Julianne Moore is such a classy redhead. And for further redhead urban fantasy authors, might I suggest Vicki Pettersson, and Jocelynn Drake… πŸ˜‰

And Josh Homme proves that redhead men can be hot, too πŸ˜‰

  30. Oh, I'd LOVE those books. πŸ™‚

My favorite redhead is Lucy… I've always been a big fan of Lucille Ball. Honorable mention to Carol Burnett.

  31. Yay more League releases. My favorite redheads are the Weasleys in Harry Potter. They are just like the most fun, yet caring family.

  32. I love red hair! Been dying my hair red for 6 years now πŸ™‚

But my favorite red heads are Cat from the night huntress series, georgina of course from the succubus series and Cin from the Cin Craven series by Jeanna Maclaine

  33. Oh that's easy–my hubby πŸ™‚ I have a think for redheads, especially the ones with pale eyelashes. Sooooo sexy . . .

  34. My favorites are Cin Craven and Sabina. I've never been brave enough to try red hair for myself.

  35. I think my favourite red head is Cat, the main protagonist from The Night Huntress Series (aka Cat and Bones books/the Grave books) by Jeaniene Frost. I also like Rose from Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. Red hair says Fiery, ballsy, girl power attitude and I like that.

  36. I've been looking forward to reading both of those! My favorite red head would have to be Rachel Morgan from Kim Harrison's the Hallows series.

  37. Favorite read-head would have to be my best friend, Robin. She too loves to dye her hair every color in the red family. πŸ™‚ Natural and unnatural colors alike.

As for more well know red-heads, you, Rachel Morgan from Kim Harrison's Hollows series, and Ms. Jaye Wells.

  38. Dude-I totally should win this one. I'm a natural red head and had to suffer through teasing from coughjealouscough people. I have never been able to wear orange or green and I have never ever ever tanned in my life!

Pick me as a winner, pick me pick me. (fingers crossed, hoping my jedi commenting tricks work on you)

  39. My Favorite Readhead Would Have To Be Molly Ringwald And Alyson Hannigan. I Can't Decide Between The Two Of Them. I Loved Molly Ringwald For All The John Hughes Movies She Was In And I Loved Alyson Hannigan When She Was Playing Willow On Buffy The Vampire Slayer. For Author's Besides You Nicole I LOVE Richelle Mead. Her Vampire Academy Series And Her Georgina Kincaid Series Are Just So Awesome. I Have Always Wished I Had Red Hair. I Don't Really Know Why I Just Wanted To Have It. I Think Part Of It Is I Just Really Love The Color Red. When I Was A Kid I Used To Use Red Colorwash In My Hair Or A Highlight Mouse To Make My Red Highlights Show. I Just Always Felt Like I Was Ment To Be A Red Head. Red Hair Just Speaks To Me In A Way That Is Hard To Describe.

  40. I'll give one for each I suppose my favorite book character with red hair is Jaz Parks from Jennifer Rardin's series. My favorite charater from a movie would be Sally from the Nightmare Before Christmas. Love that movie. And my favorite real life person is my mother. The majority of people I have met with red hair tend to be fiesty, smart, and stubborn. But also really really fun to hang out with.

  41. My mom has colored her hair red for as long as I can remember. Her natural color is dark brown and she looks exactly like me in old pictures. But I think red hair DOES say alot about a person. Red hair is usually on someone feisty, outgoing, and full of life. My mom just wouldn't be the same with brown hair. I colored my own hair dark red for a couple years but I am rather pale and it just didnt fit me. You have to have the personality to go with the hair or the hair wears you, you don't wear the hair.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to win these two books! Thanks for an awesome contest Nicole!

  42. My favorite red-head? My friend Megan from high school. She's so funny… and she hits hard if you tease her too much, lol. Man, I haven't talked to her in a while…. Famous red-head? My instinctive reaction is Julia Roberts because I remember watching her films with my mom on "girls" nights, which happened pretty much any time my dad & brother were gone. : )

Thanks for the contest. I really want to read Mage in Black especially!

  43. What an amazing contest! Enter me if it's international πŸ˜‰

My favorite redhead is probably Hermonie from Harry Potter. My dad is a redhead too, so he has to share the first place with her! πŸ˜‰

  44. My favorite red head is my younger sister. πŸ™‚ She once reminded an Irish tour-guide of the story of Moira Ruah, a woman whose husbands mysteriously disappeared just as they were about to legally be responsible for her estate. (She could only keep the estate if married, but after being married for a certain amount of time, it would cease to be *hers*…) My sister certainly isn't that kind of trouble maker, but she's also not about to let other people rain on her parade — she sets out to follow her dream, come hell or high water, following her own path to get there. That non-conformity is what I most associate with red heads!

Great contest, Nicole! And hurrah for only three months left 'til *your* next release!

  45. My current favorite read head would have to be Puck from Julie Kagawa's The Iron King. He is such a trickster but loyal and absolutely loving! Of course I also love Rachel from the Hallows, gotta love a red head that kicks ass!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  46. Hey Dr. Peeler! Love your blog!

Eh, my fav. red head is my stepmother, cuz she just has the personality to go along with it.

  47. My favorite redhead, let's call him "Bob", was a gymnast that I dated in my early twenties. He had wavy auburn hair, a muscular, rock hard body, and he was extremely flexible.
