A Few Updates and Things I Like!

Hello mah beauties!

It’s been crazy here at Casa Peeler. Midterms, then a visitor in town, and prepping for Romantic Times in a few weeks. There’s also a LOT of very fun things in the works that I’ll be able to tell you about very shortly. But until then, here’s an update of some fun things going on with Jane and with me.

In AWESOME news, our League Red Cross Critiquing Auction for Japan raised $576.00! I’m so proud of all of us, and so happy for the winners. We will tear your shit apart, in a good way! You’re awesome for donating that much to charity, and we heart everyone who bid.

I’ve just mailed out the page proofs for book 4, Eye of the Tempest. So that’s another book put to bed! I’ll hopefully have some cover art and everything to show you, soon, and then I’ll get up its official page on this website.

Book three, Tempest’s Legacy, has been bought by Germany, so there’ll be another beautifully inaccurate mermaid cover coming at you, shortly!

In very exciting personal news, I’ve found and booked a lovely flat in Bloomsbury, London, for a month this summer. I can’t tell you how excited I am for this trip, and if it works well I may try to spend the majority of the following summer in England, next year. Minus our MFA residency, of course. ;-)

As for Things I Like, I’m totally digging the new super-long chain necklaces everyone’s sporting. In fact, I just bought myself a rather lovely one at Nordstroms. I feel like I could use it in a barroom brawl, if I have to, or maybe to tie someone up. Hey, it happens! Anyway, here are some somebodies wearing them:

I’m also totally digging all the biker chic looks in stores right now. And I like that, due to my running and hot yoga, I’m starting to fit back into ‘em. I’m dangerous when I’m thinner, especially to my wallet. I’d forgotten that. ;-) Here’s an example of biker chic from Burberry:

I also have to say I am seriously obsessed with this season’s crop of updated Oxfords. They’re so androgynously sexy, with just a hint of nerd chic (to balance out the biker chic):

So there are some Things I Like, in terms of current fashion.

And here’s some music that had me singing along on the looooong drive home from the airport, today. Cat Power singing, “Silver Stallion”:

I hope you enjoy! See you soon with probably another blog post on querying, unless one of my announcements breaks early. ;-)

OMG (or Oh, Monday, Gark)

So, I’m tired. But NYC was gorgeous and my friend and I had a lovely time together. We ate TONS; did some shopping in SoHo; and I got to see my editor, agent, and some very good friends.

But Monday is kicking my ass, not least because I had to be here at 8:00 AM for a meeting. That is cruelty to academics! But I was excited to see that Orbit has blogged a fun post on the cover shoot for Jaye Well’s upcoming book, Silver-Tongued Demon. Then I was even more excited to see that I’m up for “most accessible author,” over at this contest site. Very fun!

So go vote for me, and then feel free to harass me on the internet just to prove how accessible I truly am. ;-)

Then you can join me in listening to the two songs getting me through this morning. The second one is very naughty. But first is Arcade Fire’s “Rebellion (Lies)”:

After which we have the naughty–The Bravery’s “Hatefuck”:

Happy Monday! I’ll blog you some Peeler Thanksgiving Goodness later in the week.

This Just In: San Francisco and LitCrawl!

I’m a big fan of crawling: nightcrawling, pubcrawling, dropped-my-contact-crawling . . . and now LitCrawling!

After having planned a completely spontaneous, last-minute trip to go see my lovely friend, Jana, in San Francisco, I sent one of my typically annoying emails to Orbit’s ever-patient (and most probably magical) publicist, Jack. It read something like, “OMG! Wow, like, I’m ummmm gonna be in San Fran for like a few days–we’re going to eat from those zeppelins of meat!–so, um, could I do something there, and stuff? for the books? And stuff?”

Jack, once again, translated (hence the patient part) my mindless patois and then (magically!) found me an event to glom myself on to like an overzealous leech.

On Saturday October 9th, I’ll be appearing with the lovely Gail Carriger, amongst others, for LitQuake’s LitCrawl, at Borderlands, from 7:15-8:15. Full details can be found here, on my appearances page.

Shenanigans occur when Gail and I are together, as you can discover if you click on the pic…

As for other things I’m doing, I’ll be attending Whiskyfest that Friday night (so don’t light up any cigarettes near me on Saturday; we both may go up in flames from the fumes). I’ll also be taking my Oldest Favorite Lady, Jana, to meet some of my Newest Favorite Ladies at The House of Prime RibRachael Herron, Juliet Blackwell, Sophie Littlefield, Jana and I plan on reenacting the scene from Anthony Bourdain’s visit to SF, where he gets rather blottoed and waxes poetic about the House of Prime Rib’s zeppelins of meat.

If one of us hasn’t nestled inside one of these fuckers by the end of our visit, then we obviously need another round.

I’m so excited for October, San Francisco, old and new friends, and ZEPPELINS OF MEAT! Come share my excitement with me at Borderlands! :-)

My Latest Obsession . . .

. . . Is Florence + the Machine.

You may have heard this song on AltNation. It is very controversial, as it’s about two lovers kicking the crap out of one another. I love it because it tells a dark, dangerous story about violence and lust. And it has an awesome beat.

This is the song off their album, Lung, that really gets to me, however. A few people have asked me what book three of the Jane True series is about. I’ll be writing a blurb for that book shortly, to put on the website. But until then, the closest thing I can think of to a blurb for Tempest’s Legacy is this song:

I adore it . . . and it is totally helping me keep “what’s at stake” in focus for book 3.

I hope you enjoy Florence + the Machine as much as I do.
